Annual Report for the year to 5th April 2023
The Timios Trust was established in 1999 in memory of Tim Skipp and provides travel bursaries to people undertaking Christian Service projects. This Report covers the Trust’s 24th year of operation. Since the formation of the Trust we have awarded 489 bursaries amounting to just under £164k while funds currently in hand are in excess of £110k. The average value of each grant was £437.
The Trust continues to rely on one-off gifts as well as more regular giving. We are truly grateful to all those who have given a donation, and are very aware that the Trust can only exist as a result of such generosity. Our special thanks go to those who give to the Trust in a regular and committed way, often because of special links with Tim and his family that stretch back for many years. Donations are often given at Tim’s birthday month of May which we consider to be a particularly loving way of remembering him.
Recently we have also received donations as ‘thank-you’ gestures for work undertaken by the trustees in lieu of any fee. In this way we have been grateful to receive donations for talks, concerts, musical soirees and photographic work. The trustees are always delighted when their skills and enthusiasms can contribute to the growth of the Trust.
We were delighted to give 22 bursaries during the year ending April 2023. This represents a significant increase over the previous year. Of the applicants in 2022-23 the majority were women, which accords with the long-term trend. We welcome applicants from a diverse demographic and encourage applications from people of all ethnicities, men and women, for those recently turned 18 and those somewhat older!
As means of encouragement, quoted below are some words from Florence Piper who travelled to Argentina with Latin Link:
'The receiving church was La Iglesia Evangélica Cristo el Señor (Evangelical Church of Christ the Lord), and the project revolved around construction work that was needed in the church, and integrating ourselves into the church community, especially with the children’s Sunday school groups…
Coming home was a bittersweet moment, the church family were so generous in giving us parting gifts and a leaving party. Returning to England I know that I have found a second home in Argentina, and that God truly blessed me in being able to go and spend time with the amazing people in a beautiful culture. I very much hope I will be able to return soon.'
This shows how the Timios Trust can contribute to the practical elements of service but also is transformative for individuals on service, and for their relationships both with God and with communities far away from home. This encounter with cultures and situations which may be out of our comfort zones, but which allow us to grow in faith and friendship, is what the Trust hopes to support.
The Timios Trust is a Registered Charity (No. 1077516) and is always pleased to receive donations and bursary enquiries.
